The Frog in the Well by DR A P J ABDUL KALAM
Once, a group of scientists asked Abdul Kalam to speak to them about
his experiences in space research. Kalam began by telling them a story about a
frog that lived in a well.
The frog was very happy and content in his little well, but one day he
looked up and saw a group of birds flying high in the sky. The frog was amazed
by their freedom and wished he could experience the same.
One day, a bird flew down to the well and the frog asked him to take
him up to the sky. The bird agreed and asked the frog to hold on tight to his
back.
As the bird flew higher and higher, the frog felt more and more
exhilarated. He was amazed by the beauty and vastness of the world beyond his
little well. But as they flew over a forest, the frog saw a group of other
frogs living happily in a pond.
The frog became jealous and said to the bird, "Please take me
back to my well. I am happy there." The bird was confused and asked the
frog why he had changed his mind.
The frog replied, "In my well, I was the king. I was comfortable
and happy. But out here, I am nothing. I am small and insignificant."
Kalam finished the story and said, "We are all like the frog in
the well. We become so comfortable in our little worlds that we forget that
there is a vast, beautiful world beyond our own. We must break free of our
self-imposed limitations and explore the world around us. Only then can we
truly experience the beauty and wonder of life."
This story teaches us the importance of stepping out of our comfort zones and exploring new horizons, even if it means taking risks and facing challenges. It also reminds us that we are capable of achieving greatness if we are willing to learn, grow, and persevere.
